There’s just something so fancy about drinking a latte. And while I don’t put out my pinky while I’m sipping it, there are times that I’m tempted to! I think that you’ll see exactly what I mean when you make up this simple sipper for yourself.

Since I seem to have caffeine pumping through my veins all the time, I love the expresso that is added to this simple latte drink. It gives the perfect “jolt” packed with tasty flavors that just might have me making another one very, very shortly.
What is the difference between a latte and a cappuccino?
Great question. Many people think they’re one and the same but they’re actually not. A cappuccino has even parts of ingredients that are added while a latte has more frothed milk and will often have a layer of white milk foam on top, too.
But don’t get me wrong…but are super delicious to drink! I love to make caffeinated drinks at home so I can easily control the sweetness as well. Plus, it’s fun to work on my presentation skills, too!

I love a good latte. And this is especially true when that latte just so happens to be a Starbucks Copycat recipe as well. Why spend a ton of money at the Starbucks drive-thru when I can easily make it up for a fraction of the cost at home. PLUS, this recipe also means that I can have a latte anytime that I want, without having to ever wait again.
The cardamom latte at Starbucks is delicious. And if you want to try to replicate that at home, you can use this recipe. You can use Starbucks Espresso Roast, or if you don’t have that, a rich dark roast will work great.
Our recipe gets its sweetness from the vanilla simple syrup. Their recipe uses their classic syrup, so if you prefer it without the vanilla flavor, you can do that too. We think it adds a lovely flavor dimension to the drink, so be sure to let us know which one you like best if you try making it both ways.
Ingredients to make Vanilla Cardamom Latte
With just 5 easy ingredients to make this delicious drink, there’s no reason that you can’t whip this up every single day. Right now, with the cooler temperatures starting to arrive, I can’t think of a better way to start, end, or compliment my day than this latte recipe.

- Cardamom
- Vanilla simple syrup
- Espresso
- Frothed Milk
To make the drink, you will need: an espresso maker, a measuring cup, a measuring spoon, a milk frother, and a coffee mug. If you like to gently dust the spices on top rather than shake them from the container, we like to use a fine mesh strainer to get a nice, even distribution of the spices without clumps.
Just make certain that you get a really cool mug to drink it from because drinking it out a cool mug is part of the fun! I love being able to sip and hold my fancy mug in front of the fire or while I’m reading the news for the day.
It just makes me feel so fancy!
Pro Tip: If you haven’t had cardamom before, start with just a little. It’s a complex spice, and if you use too much, it can be a little, well much.
Can I spike the latte with alcohol?
Sure! If you like a little somethin’ somethin’ extra in your coffee, why not?
We love to add a shot of whiskey or bourbon to the drink. But another favorite is Kahlua or Irish Cream. You can even add a nice spiced rum – that goes especially well with the cardamom flavor.
How do you froth milk?
If you have a milk frother, you use that! But if you don’t, don’t fret. All you need to do is add your milk to a jar or container with a lid and give it a hard shake for about 30 seconds of time.
This will make it froth up perfectly to add to your drink. (You might have to do this for a bit longer than 30 seconds but typically no more than a minute of time)
You should notice that it looks to be able twice the size of liquid from when you added it to your jar and that is your indicator that it’s frothed and ready.
How to Make a Vanilla Cardamom Latte
What you’ll find from this recipe is that it’s really, really simple to make. So simple, in fact, you’re going to be impressed with how little effort it takes. Who knew that you had a barista inside of you?!
Start by mixing the spices together in your coffee cup and adding the simple syrup. This will make a nice spiced syrup blend.
When you combine the spices in the mug first, and then add the syrup, it’s easier to blend the flavors into the latte.
If you’re using fresh coffee beans, grind the beans and put them in the espresso maker.
To make espresso, you want to use espresso beans with a fine grind. If you are new to grinding beans, we suggest experimenting with your grinds. You don’t want to get too find of a grind, the grounds may flow through. If they are too coarse, the espresso may not taste as good. If there’s a clump, like the one in the middle of the photo, you can always pick that out before brewing.
You want to brew the espresso for about 20 to 30 seconds to get the ideal flavor.

Pour the espresso over the spiced syrup and stir it well so that the spiced syrup dissolves.
Froth the milk and pour it on top of the espresso.
If you would like, gently sprinkle the remaining cardamom on top of the frothed milk.
I like to use a fine mesh strainer for this so that the spice is evenly distributed. Put a small amount of cardamom in the strainer, and holding the strainer over the mug, gently pat the edge of the strainer against the palm of your hand to shake out a little at a time to taste.
Note: If you prefer, you may sprinkle cinnamon on top of the froth instead of cardamom depending on your preferences. Or you can combine the two spices. Have fun with it and see how you like it best.
