Is there anything that says “fall is here” more than pumpkin spice and buffalo plaid?
Espresso is great for energy and Autumn is a time when you need all the energy you can get.
Between school and work and planning the best Halloween party and planning the perfect Thanksgiving dinner – there is a lot to do.
This delicious beverage can help you have the fuel you need, in the tastiest way you can imagine.
The best part of all – this espresso is nearly sugar-free (completely if you use sugar-free whipped topping, too).
This means that you can enjoy all that delicious flavor guilt-free.
It just doesn’t get better than that.
Make your own espresso at home
I admit that I really enjoy going to get a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop.
But much of that experience involves the social element – meeting a friend, chatting with the baristas I’ve come to know.
And some days, I just don’t want to go out for coffee.
Or I’d rather save money.
Or I’m having a really bad hair day.
And on those days, I’d much rather make my coffee at home.
So I’ve accumulated a variety of tools to help me do that.
And making espresso at home is really easy with the right tools.
We like the Cafe Barista from Mr. Coffee as a solid espresso machine for those who really like their espresso but aren’t ready to go for a gourmet machine.
We typically choose an appliance for home use that’s kind of mid-range to get us started, and then if it’s something we use a lot, we consider upgrading at a later time.
So we started with this one from Mr. Coffee.
It’s been a great machine for us.
If making espresso on the stove top is more your style, you can always use a traditional espresso maker (known as a moka pot) too, like this one from Bialetti
Ingredients you need to make Skinny Pumpkin Spice Vanilla Espressos
- 2 T Finely Ground Coffee to make Espresso
- 1/4 tsp Sugar-Free Vanilla Syrup
- 1/4 tsp Sugar-Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup
- Optional: Whipped Topping
- Optional: Cinnamon
Note: If you prefer your espresso without dairy, simply omit the whipped cream.
If you’re using the whipped topping, you can use a lower calorie whipped topping too.
We used the mini size espresso cups for this recipe.
Can I spike the espresso with alcohol?
Sure you can!
Adding a shot of your favorite liquor to a coffee drink is delicious!
With this recipe, we really like spiking it with whiskey, but we also find that Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice Liqueur makes a great addition to this recipe too.
The Bailey’s really makes the drink perfect to serve like a dessert.
When I’m using the Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice, I sometimes don’t use the Pumpkin Spice syrup.
It kind of depends on your taste buds.
If you really like the flavor to be intense, definitely use both.
If you like it more like a hint, I’d leave out the syrup and let the Bailey’s do the work.
There are a lot of pumpkin spice flavored liqueurs out there; if you try one that you really like, please let us know in the comments so we can recommend it to others too!
How to make a Skinny Pumpkin Spice Vanilla Espresso
Pre-Step:
If you grind your own coffee, grind it using the fine setting.
I like to add the vanilla and pumpkin spice syrups into the mini espresso cups so that I can later pour the espresso into the syrup.
Prepare your espresso machine by adding the ground coffee.
Brew the espresso directly into the espresso cup.
It will mix with the syrups.
Optional: Top the drink with whipped topping and dust with cinnamon.
Note: To dust with cinnamon, either use a shaker or a fine mesh strainer.
Fill them with a small amount of cinnamon and pat the shaker or strainer gently against your palm over the cup.
It will dust a little bit at a time.
It’s best to start with a little and add more than to do too much and remove some.
