Pomegranate Lemonade | Champagne and Coconuts

maximios Recipes

I love drinks that are really flexible and perfect for almost any occasion, and Pomegranate Lemonade is just such a drink.

When you look at it, the bright reddish-orange color makes this drink look like it is all dressed up for the holidays.

Especially if garnished with a sprig of mint.

And it’s low-calorie too!

Enjoy a delicious Pomegranate Lemonade any time

Enjoy a glass of pomegranate lemonade anytime with our versatile recipe.

Pomegranate Lemonade has the sort of look that works for anything from an Autumn potluck to a Christmas party.

And it really pops at New Years, too.

Since Pomegranates are in season from October through February, this makes sense.

However, since this cocktail is a lemonade, it makes for a completely refreshing drink throughout the Spring and Summer, as well.

When are pomegranates in season?

Fresh pomegranates are in season from October through February.

But you can enjoy delicious pomegranate flavor year round with this recipe.

If you make this drink during pomegranate season, you can always add in some fresh pomegranate seeds.

You can muddle them, juice the seeds, or just let the fresh seeds float.

Use pomegranate vodka or juice if you can’t find fresh poms

Is it not pomegranate season where you are?

That’s okay!

Even if you can’t find a fresh pomegranate, Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka is available year round.

It’s ready to brighten up your lemonade and make it sing!

Pomegranate Lemonade also tastes great when made with Pomegranate juice.

That makes the mocktail version a perfect beverage for kids, or simply to share with friends who don’t imbibe.

In fact, this recipe is so tasty, you might find that it becomes your new “family favorite” beverage!

Make one pitcher for the adults and one for the kids!

Just be sure to label which is which!

Thank you to our friends at Van Gogh Vodka for sharing their recipe and photos with us.

A low-calorie lemonade recipe

Another great thing about this yummy lemonade recipe is that it’s low-calorie, with only 166 calories per serving.

That’s made with regular lemonade.

If you use a sugar-free or no calorie lemonade, you can reduce the calories even further.

Ingredients you need to make Pomegranate Lemonade

You need:

  • Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka
  • Lemonade
  • Club soda (or top to taste)

What do I use if I don’t have pomegranate flavored vodka?

If you have regular vodka on hand and want to make the drink, you can make a tweak to the recipe to get a yummy result.

You will still use 2 cups of vodka, but you will do one of two things.

You’ll either use a larger container and add pomegranate juice.

Or if you can’t increase the drink’s volume, you’ll reduce the amount of lemonade by one cup and add 1 cup of pomegranate juice.

To save time, I like to use store bought pomegranate juice.

How to make fresh pomegranate juice

When pomegranates are in season, there is absolutely nothing tastier than to make this drink with fresh lemonade and fresh pomegranate juice.

Making fresh pomegranate juice is easy, particularly if you’re good at opening a pomegranate.

But if you’re not, you can always purchase the pomegranate seeds already removed from the fruit.

Here’s an easy way to open a pomegranate.

To make the juice, you’ll put the pomegranate seeds in your blender.

Press pulse a few times to get the seeds to open up.

You should see the juice coming out a bit.

When you’re done pulsing, take a mesh strainer and hold it over your container and pour the fresh juice through the strainer.

This will remove the seeds’ pulp.

You may find it helpful to press the pulp against the sides of the strainer with a spoon to extract more juice.

And that’s how you make fresh pomegranate juice!

Make it a Mocktail instead

If you’d like to enjoy this drink as a mocktail, you can substitute pomegranate juice for the vodka.

It will still make a delightful, fruity lemonade.

It’s that easy.

Just leave out the vodka.

You may want to add a touch more club soda to stretch the drink to make up for the loss in volume.

How to make Pomegranate Lemonade

It couldn’t be easier.

Just combine the ingredients in a pitcher or punch dispenser with ice.

Slice a lemon for garnish.

Fill your glass with ice, and add a lemon wheel for some color.

Serve over ice with a lemon wedge and a sprig of fresh mint.

Granty Burn Old Fashioned Cocktail | Champagne and Coconuts

maximios Recipes

Speyburn provided Champagne and Coconuts with some Scotch for us to try their Granty Burn Old Fashioned.

However, all opinions are our own.

Are you one of those purists who think that Scotch should be served straight up and neat, with no ice or additives?

If so, you probably aren’t even reading this recipe right now.

But, if you are still here with me, I hope that you will consider trying this Granty Burn Old-Fashioned Scotch Cocktail.

A Speyburn Scotch Cocktail

After all, this recipe comes straight from the people at Speyburn.

Considering that they make the 10-Year-Old Scotch used in the recipe, I was willing to give this cocktail a try.

And if you love Scotch, I’m willing to bet that this Granty Burn Old-Fashioned will make a believer out of you, too.

Besides – how can you resist a drink literally named after the Granty Burn stream of pure spring water that the Speyburn distillery uses to make its Scotch?

Speyburn is the only distillery using the spring water from Granty Burn, and that pure spring freshness really shows in their delicious Scotch.

Give it a try and you’ll see what I mean!

The Granty Burn Old Fashioned Scotch Cocktail

granty-burn-old-fashioned-recipe-with-bottle-of-speyburn-10-year-scotch-700x1024-3238461

This recipe was kindly shared with us by the Good Folks at Speyburn where Jonathan Pogash is their Cocktail Guru.

It adds just a hint of sweetness to their scotch, and the citrus bitters give it just the right balance.

The Granty Burn Old Fashioned hits just the right notes with a hint of sweetness and orange bitters.

It takes its name from the stream in Scotland the distillery uses to make the scotch.

A low calorie whiskey cocktail

Making the drink is so simple, and it only has 101 calories!

That’s perfect if you’re counting your calories.

Ingredients you need to make the Granty Burn Old Fashioned Cocktail

  • 2 1/2 oz. Speyburn 10 Year Old Scotch
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 3 dashes orange bitters, we used Fee Brothers
  • Orange peel, for garnish

You’ll need a vegetable peeler, spoon or whisk, and a beverage glass.

How to make your own simple syrup

If you’re making your own simple syrup, you’ll want to use a 1:1 ratio.

So if you’re making extra for other drinks, you can use 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar.

It will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks, so I often make enough to use for several drinks.

If you want your simple syrup to last a bit longer, add a splash of vodka to the syrup.

It doesn’t add any flavor, but it helps to extend the shelf life of your refrigerated syrup.

Note: If you wish, you may substitute the simple syrup for a sugar cube if you’re a traditionalist about how you make your old fashioneds.

How to make the Granty Burn Old Fashioned

Making this drink is really simple.

If you are using store bought simple syrup, you may skip the next step.

To make your homemade simple syrup, place one part sugar and one part water in a sauce pan and bring it to a gentle boil.

Stir frequently to help the sugar dissolve.

Once it has dissolved, allow the syrup to cool.

You will want to decant the syrup into a bottle or other container.

I like to begin by putting my ice in the glass first so that the liquid chills as it pours over the ice.

You can use regular ice cubes, but if you like to use large ice squares or spheres, this is a particularly fun drink for those.

Pour the scotch over the ice followed by the simple syrup.

Add three dashes of Angostura Bitters.

If you like more or less, it’s okay to adjust but we find three dashes to be a nice amount.

Stir the drink gently but thoroughly.

Garnish with an orange peel.

If you have a cocktail pick, they look really pretty suspended above the drink.

But if you want to float the peel in the drink, that works too. Serve and enjoy!

Whisky Cherry Coke Smash made with Crown Royal | Champagne and Coconuts

maximios Recipes

If you love the taste of an authentic, old-fashioned Cherry Coke, I bet you will love this Whisky Cherry Coke Smash.

Made with Crown Royal, this scrumptious cocktail has a rather remarkable flavor profile that must be tasted to be believed.

Making a homemade cherry coke is so easy! And it’s so good when you mix in some delicious whisky!

A cherry Coke whisky smash is party perfect

This is a wonderful drink to serve up in the summer when fresh cherries are available.

It is perfect for smaller gatherings and dinner with friends around the backyard grill.

It’s also romantic enough to be the perfect “date night” cocktail.

And if you want to make it alcohol-free, simply leave out the whiskey.

Even if summertime has passed and Autumn leaves are falling, you can make Whisky Cherry Coke Smash with frozen or Maraschino cherries.

And this lovely drink looks quite festive during the holidays.

When you get right to it, there is no bad time of year to serve up this delicious cocktail!

It’s always a good time for a Crown Royal and Coke – it’s one of our favorite easy mixed drinks.

Enjoy a Whisky Cherry Coke Smash made with Crown Royal

Crown Royal is a Canadian whisky, which means it’s a bit of a free for all.

While a delicious premium whisky, Canada has fewer regulations about what makes a whisky, well, whisky.

That is, unlike in the United States where a rye whiskey needs to be made from 51% rye, a Canadian whisky doesn’t have that regulation.

So you can find some flavor variance.

I find this to be a joyful occurrence.

Crown Royal can really surprise you at times with its flavor profile.

And this flavor profile makes Crown Royal an absolutely delicious choice to pair with a homemade cherry coke.

Or in our case, a whiskey cherry coke smash since we’re using actual cherries rather than grenadine.

Why is it whisky instead of whiskey?

Canadians and Scots spell the name of the spirit “whisky” while the Irish and Americans spell it “whiskey” with an e.

Exploring the differences between whisky, bourbon and Scotch?

You may enjoy trying some of our other cocktail recipes such as our

Star Fruit Pineapple Mint Julep made with bourbon,

the Black Eyed Susan Cocktail (another Crown Royal drink recipe),

or our Granty Burn Old Fashioned made with Scotch.

When fresh plums are in season, you may also want to try our Plum Citrus Whiskey Smash.

Ingredients you need to make the Whisky Cherry Coke Smash

Makes 2 drinks

  • 4 oz Crown Royal
  • 1 ¼ cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 12 oz  Coca Cola, chilled

Any variations on the recipe?

If fresh cherries aren’t available, you can substitute Maraschino cherries or frozen cherries.

If you’re using frozen cherries, be sure to let them thaw to make it easier to muddle them.

I used Crown Royal for this recipe, but it’s also delicious with a good Kentucky Bourbon.

A bourbon and cherry coke is also delightful.

Can I make it frozen?

If you serve the drink over well-crushed ice, it’s kind of like a Cherry Crown and Coke slushie.

It’s particularly refreshing when you want an ice cold drink.

Another idea if you want to mix it up a bit is to add a drop or two of vanilla extract.

It gives it a fun coke float kind of flavor.

Or of course, you could use Crown Royal Vanilla as well.

Make it a Mocktail

And if you don’t drink alcohol, or want to make one for the kids, leaving out the Crown Royal makes for a fine homemade Cherry Coke.

If you really want to preserve the whisky flavor, you may also substitute a non-alcoholic whisky for the Crown Royal.

Enjoy a refreshing homemade cherry coke – with whisky! It’s one of our favorite Crown Royal mixed drinks recipes.

How to make the Cherry Coke Whisky Smash

Remove the seeds from the cherries and dice them into chunks.

Place cherries in a large mixing glass.

Muddle together the whisky, cherries and sugar until you have a pulp.

You really want to mash the cherries thoroughly.

Add the cherry and whisky mixture to a cocktail shaker and shake it until it’s well-mixed.

Strain the whiskey and cherry mix into 2 glasses over ice.

I like to use a fine mesh strainer to filter out the chunks.

If you want to have the muddled cherries present, you may use a cocktail strainer instead.

Top the drink off with Coca Cola.

Garnish with fresh cherries and a fresh sprig of mint.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy appetizer recipe, look no further than cranberry brie bites!

This recipe only requires four ingredients and takes just minutes to prepare.

The combination of sweet and savory flavors is sure to please your guests.

So next time you’re hosting a party, give this recipe a try!

  • Wheel of Brie cheese
  • Can of crescent sheets (or crescent dough)
  • Can whole cranberry sauce
  • Fresh rosemary

And just in case cranberry isn’t your thing, you can also make this substituting a delicious jam in the flavor of your choice.

I really like making it with blackberry jam too!

I like to use the jam that has the whole fruit included rather than the kind that is super smooth.

Using the whole fruit jam offers a nicer texture than one without whole fruit.

You can also substitute the brie with camembert too!

Both Brie and Camembert are soft, creamy cheeses that are perfect for spreading on a cracker or eating by themselves.

But there are some key differences between these two types of cheese.

Brie is a type of cheese that is made from cow’s milk.

It has a smooth, creamy texture and a mild flavor.

Camembert is also made from cow’s milk, but it has a more intense flavor and a slightly firmer texture than Brie.

Both Brie and Camembert are usually served as appetizers or snacks, but Camembert can also be used in dishes like salads or pasta dishes.

Brie is a bit more popular than Camembert, but both cheeses are considered to be gourmet cheeses.

They are both idea additions to your cheese boards too!

Lightly flour a countertop.

Roll out a sheet of crescent dough.

If you can’t find the whole sheets, you can use the crescent rolls, just pinch the perforated lines to make them whole.

Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice into 12 pieces.

If using a mini muffin tin for tiny bites, cut the dough into 24 pieces.

Spray a muffin tin with cooking spray.

Put each square of dough into the pan making sure that it forms a bit of a bowl.

Next, slice your cheese into 12 pieces.

I cut the rind off mine, but you can leave it on if you wish.

It is edible and a bit of personal preference!

If using the mini pan, cut each slice in half.

Add one slice of cheese into each dough ‘bowl’.

Open a can of whole cranberry sauce.

Spoon some on top of each piece of cheese.

Lastly, lay a bit of fresh rosemary on top of each one.

Bake in the oven at 375 for 12-15 minutes.

Serve warm.

Who wants cold appetizers? Nobody!

At least not the ones that are supposed to be warm, right?

That’s why it’s important to know how to keep them warm.

Here are a few tips:

Use a warming tray or a slow cooker.

This will keep your appetizers at a consistent temperature so that no one has to wait long for their food.

If you’re using a slow cooker, make sure to preheat it before adding the appetizers.

You want to use it on low since you aren’t cooking them at this point – just keeping them warm.

This will help them stay warm throughout the party.

Keep your extra appetizers in an oven-safe dish so that you can easily transfer them to the oven if they start to cool down before transferring them to your serving dishes.

Brie and cranberry are two classic flavors that go great together.

This appetizer combines them into a simple, yet delicious, bite-sized snack.

The brie is creamy and pairs perfectly with the tart cranberry sauce.

These would be perfect for your next party or get-together!

Frozen Pineapple Mango Vodka Slush | Champagne and Coconuts

maximios Recipes

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see our disclosure for more information. Jump to Recipe Jump to Video Print Recipe

In the world of summertime cocktails, you’d be hard pressed to find one that LOOKS more like sunshine than this beautiful Frozen Pineapple Mango Vodka Slush.

Made with fresh pineapple and mango, this drink hits ALL the marks for summertime!

Pineapple and Mango Slush Recipe

Fresh Fruit makes this Pineapple Mango Slushie a Hit

While this cocktail requires a little work to prepare your ingredients ahead of time, it is well worth it.

It’s so smooth too. It’s almost like a pineapple mango vodka smoothie.

This is an amazing drink to serve at a backyard luau-style party, cookout, or pool party.

It even looks best with one of those little cocktail umbrellas and a nice chunk of pineapple.

pineapple-mango-vodka-slush-2169555

What I love most, though, is how bright and cheerful it is.

Between the pineapple and mango, this pineapple vodka smoothie is so brightly yellow, it is practically neon.

That, and it’s so refreshing, you’ll forget about the vodka in it.

You can even use a flavored vodka too if you’d like.

This recipe makes a great Svedka Mango Pineapple drink.

And if you have kids around, you can easily leave the vodka out without missing any of the wonderful flavors.

After all, doesn’t everyone deserve to get a nice taste of sunshine?

Frozen Pineapple Mango Vodka Smoothie

Fresh ingredients really make this drink taste extra tropical.

But if pineapples and mangos are not in season or if you don’t have access to fresh ones, you can use frozen.

It will taste great.

The consistency will be a bit thicker, kind of like a shake or smoothie.

But it will be nice and cold.

SO NICE AND COLD!

Ingredients you need to make the Frozen Pineapple Mango Vodka Slush

For simple syrup:

Note: While you can certainly use a commercially prepared simple syrup in this recipe, it’s so easy to make, why not make some fresh.

And make some extra in case you want to make these again.

For the slush:

  • 1 ¼ C. fresh chopped Pineapple
  • 1 C. fresh chopped Mango
  • 3-4 oz Vodka – we used Svedka vodka, but you may use your favorite
  • 1 C. Ice

if you’d like, you may use a flavored vodka in the recipe.

We have enjoyed using Svedka Mango Pineapple Vodka in this recipe too.

It ups the tropical flavor a bit.

To make the slush, you will need these kitchen tools:

  • Sauce Pan (or Electric Kettle)
  • Measuring Cup
  • Spoon
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Blender
  • Beverage Glasses

I use a Ninja Blender and have this set that is great for the kitchen as it combines a blender with a food processor.

And you can make individual drinks and smoothies with it too!

Make it a non-alcoholic Pineapple Mango Smoothie instead

Without the alcohol, the drink is kind of like enjoying a mango pineapple smoothie.

You can enjoy the pineapple mango slushie without the vodka. Simply omit the vodka.

If you feel you need a bit of liquid to get your preferred texture, add some pineapple juice to the blender a little bit at a time.

How to make the Frozen Pineapple Mango Vodka Slush

Directions for simple syrup:

Put water and sugar into a small pot.

Cook on medium until it comes to a boil.

Lower heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

Set aside to cool.

To make the drink:

In a blender (I used a Ninja) add mango, pineapple, and simple syrup and blend until smooth.

Add vodka and ice and blend for a few seconds until combined.

Pour into glass and enjoy!

Pro Tip: To speed up the process of making your simple syrup, boil your water in an electric kettle if you have one.

Then add the boiling water to a bowl to mix with the sugar and the sugar will rapidly dissolve.

While the water is heating, you can chop your fresh fruit.

The Best Holiday Wassail Bowl Punch | Champagne and Coconuts

The best holiday wassail bowl punch has a long history, steeped in tradition.

Did you know that “wassail” got its name from a traditional Old Norse greeting?

A Traditional Wassail Recipe

Literally meaning “good health,” the word ‘wassail’ has evolved over the course of a millennium to its present form.

It has gone from a simple greeting, to a toast.

The toast involves a drink made from various fruits and juices and, usually, ale or dark beer or brandy.

It often contained floating rings of oranges and lemons, which would have filled it with Vitamin C.

Undoubtedly an advantageous thing to drink in the days of yore, when scurvy was rampant.

The History of Wassail Bowl Punch

Wassail was such a popular beverage in ancient England, that it even appears in its literature as early as the eighth-century poem, Beowulf.

It has had numerous carols and songs written in its honor, such as “Here We Come A-Wassailing”.

Although, not originally English, wassail and its familiar toast, was so popular and steeped in English lore, that it was considered by the eleventh-century conquering Normans to be native to England and its people.

Wassail is where the concept of giving a toast comes from

The wassail bowl itself dates to the thirteenth century, when it was used to dip bread and cakes into.

Floating pieces of crisp bread on the surface of the wassail bowl is the origin of our modern-day version of the phrase ‘giving a toast’ or ‘toasting’.

These bowls were made of the finest materials available in order to withstand heavy use.

Wassail Bowl Punch tastes and smells so good

Wassail is a traditional holiday drink, but is delicious all winter long.

A delicious stand-by in many homes over the years, it is a great alternative to alcoholic beverages to warm up those cold, blustery months.

Made on the stove top, or, in a slow-cooker (such as a Crock-Pot).

It is not only fast and easy, but stays warm and delicious for hours.

In fact, the longer it simmers, the more the flavors blend together and create a spicy, citrus delight!

Wassail is a delicious holiday drink.

It’s a great alternative to alcoholic beverages and is perfect to help you warm up when it’s cold outside.

Ingredients you need to make Wassail Bowl Punch:

  • 2 quarts sweet apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 large can pineapple juice
  • 2 oranges, sliced into rings
  • 2 lemons, sliced into rings
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 12 whole cloves
  • honey to taste

Note: You may substitute sugar for honey if you prefer.

It’s okay to substitute the sweeteners.

Simple syrup is also an excellent choice to mix into the drink as well.

To make the drink, you will need: a Dutch oven or other large pot, measuring cup, spoon, fine mesh strainer, and beverage glasses.

Alternately, you may also make the drink in a slow cooker.

Making spiked wassail

One serves the traditional wassail recipe as a non-alcoholic drink.

But if you want to serve an alcoholic wassail recipe, you can. People enjoy spiking wassail with any of these liquors:

  • whiskey
  • bourbon
  • rum
  • amaretto or
  • brandy.

Some people even enjoy spiking wassail with flavored liquors like Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey or Apple Brandy.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that Fireball wassail is pretty delicious.

It makes a yummy Fireball punch.

When you serve wassail punch with alcohol, pour a shot of liquor into the mug or glass before pouring the wassail.

The heat from the wassail will warm the alcohol without being hot enough to cause the alcohol to evaporate.

Just give it a gentle stir once in your cup to mix the flavors.

How to make Wassail Bowl Punch

Making homemade wassail is really simple.

Start by placing a large pot on the stove.

I like to use a Dutch oven for this, but even a stock pot will work.

Add all of the ingredients into the Dutch oven and let them simmer over medium-low heat for about 10 to 15 minutes.

It’s important to note that you don’t want it to come to a boil.

If it does, the mixture will begin to evaporate and you’ll lose noticeable volume if it boils at length.

For this reason, I like to put a lid on the pot just in case it gets too hot.

When it’s time to drink, strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer to catch any loose spices.

Pro-Tip: If you enjoy making wassail often during the winter, we like to make the spice blend ahead of time.

The way we like to do that is to cut a small square of cheesecloth, place the spices on the cloth, and then tie it with  cooking twine.

Then you have them ready to go!

It saves time, and you can even make up the spice “bags” and put them in a jar for a simple homemade gift!

Slow Cooker directions

These ingredients may also be combined in a slow-cooker and heated on high until mixture is hot, but not boiling.

Reduce setting to low.

Using the slow cooker is also a great way to keep the drink warm if you’re serving it at an event.

After the drink has reached it’s ideal temperature, turn the temperature to low.

Keep the lid on it when not in use to prevent evaporation.

Boozy Thin Mint Shake | Champagne and Coconuts

Mint chocolate lovers will love this Boozy Thin Mint Milkshake!

While my Grasshopper Cocktail Topped with Thin Mint Cookies is a wonderful cocktail for lovers of chocolate mint and shamrock shakes, this boozy milkshake is even more like the real deal.

Thick, sweet, cold, and creamy, this milkshake satisfies on every level.

And it’s still delectably creamy and smooth.

Enjoy a Delicious, Boozy Thin Mint Shake

When you love chocolate mint like we do, indulging in a delicious boozy milkshake is such a treat!

Boozy Thin Mint Milkshakes are made with the delicious blend of Creme de Menthe, Baileys Irish Cream, and White Creme de Cacao.

Blend them all together with mint chocolate chip ice cream and cookies, top with some whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

And share some yummy green milkshake with your favorite Saint Patrick’s Day companion.

It’s kind of like a boozy Shamrock Shake with Baileys!

And of course, if your daughter sells Girl Scout Cookies, (or if she expects you to help sell them to your friends) this shake is a secret weapon to help make some Thin Mint sales… hee hee!

Just make some when you’re hanging out with your friends, and you may find yourself adding some orders to your daughter’s list.

Serve a Thin Mint Shake as part of a milkshake bar

Another wonderful thing about this Boozy Thin Mint Milkshake is how versatile the recipe is.

You have some really fun ingredients in this drink so you’re not stuck serving only a mint chocolate chip cocktail.

You can set up ingredients for a number of guests in a milkshake bar.

Then you can easily alternate between making alcoholic milkshakes and milkshakes that are alcohol-free.

We like to set up several different flavors of ice cream with various liquors and toppings so people can mix and match.

You can always print out this recipe card along with some of our other boozy shake and float recipes for some ideas.

This  is always a hit for summer cookouts.

But I think it’s only fair to warn you:

Once your friends learn that you can make these delectable drinks, they’ll be hitting you up to make creme de menthe milkshakes for every party, holiday, and get-together!

Thin Mint Boozy Milkshake Ingredients:

If you haven’t used Creme de Menthe before, you can always start with a small bottle to see how you like it. It’s got a delicious mint flavor.

Ingredients to make a Boozy Chocolate Mint Milkshake:

Makes 3-4 milkshakes depending on the size of your glass

  • 4 scoops Mint Chocolate Ice Cream
  • 6 Thin Mint Cookies, divided
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup
  • 3 oz Creme de Menthe
  • 3 oz Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1 oz White Creme de Cacao
  • Ice
  • Whipped Topping

Why do you use white Creme de Cacao (clear)

The reason we use White Creme de Cacao in this recipe rather than regular Creme de Cacao is for color rather than flavor reasons.

White Cream de Cacao is clear.

It tastes the same if you use regular Creme de Cacao, but the regular kind will dilute the pretty green color.

Because this drink has mint chocolate ice cream and Irish Cream in it, it already won’t be as bright green as a Grasshopper for example.

But it’s still got a nice green color using the white Creme de Cacao.

Can I make a non-alcoholic mint chocolate chip milkshake?

Sure!

Start by leaving out the alcohol.

Then you will need to replace some of the volume of the alcohol with milk.

Otherwise, you just end up with blended ice cream.

What you want to do is add a bit of milk at a time to see how you like it.

Basically, you want at least a 1/4 cup of milk for each cup of ice cream.

But some people like to use more – like as much as 3/4 cups of milk for each cup of ice cream.

It’s a personal preference.

So I recommend adding less, and then seeing if you want more if you’re unsure how much to use.

You can always add more, but you can’t take it away without adding more ice cream.

Oh no! More ice cream!

How to Make a Boozy Thin Mint Shake:

You will want to blend the shake to your desired texture. We like a really thick shake, but if you prefer a thinner shake that’s a bit easier to drink through a straw, you can always add in a little bit of milk, or add some ice cubes, to the shake.

In a blender, add the ice cream and 4 of the Thin Mint Cookies.

Blend well.

Add the Creme de Menthe, Bailey’s, and Creme de Cacao to the blender.

Blend it really well.

You want it to be nice and smooth.

Pour into each glass and top with whipped topping, drizzle chocolate syrup, and add a thin mint cookie to each milkshake.

Viking Glogg is an excellent warm whiskey cocktail to sip all autumn and winter long.

There are a number of cocktails that are perfect for Autumn.

But this Viking Glogg is definitely one of my favorites.

The incredible Highland Park Magnus Whiskey is a tasty delight all by itself.

But when you combine it with all the flavors of Autumn – like apple, orange, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger…

You end up with a taste sensation that will completely blow your mind.

Make some homemade Viking Glogg this winter

This is one of those drinks that you truly need at any festive Autumn gathering.

It is simply too delicious to drink alone.

This needs to be prepared in large batches for parties, cookouts, or to enjoy after coming home from the local pumpkin patch or corn maze.

If you are a fan of Sangrias and punches, this Viking Glogg will truly satisfy.

Make a large pot of Viking Glogg

Be sure to whip up a large enough batch that you won’t run out.

Even if you’re simply serving it to dinner guests.

This tasty cocktail is the perfect treat for everything from Halloween parties to relaxing after an afternoon of raking leaves.

And it tastes so good, you may find yourself wishing that it was Autumn all year long.

A special thank you to Lauren MacDougall, Beverage Director at the Great Northern Food Hall at Grand Central Station in New York City for sharing her delightful recipe with us.

What is Glogg?

In many parts of Scandinavia, Glogg is a beverage served like a spiced mulled beverage.

If you’re familiar with mulled wine or if you serve wassail during the holidays, then you’ve enjoyed similar beverages.

It’s typically served during the winter months.

And it’s traditionally served at Christmastime too.

How do you pronounce glogg?

How do your pronounce glogg anyway?

It’s both a Swedish and a Danish word, and it sounds more like the word glug.

The o sound is is kind of like how you would say foot with more of an uh sound than an o sound.

It’s also worth mentioning that it actually means “mulled wine.”

While glogg is often made with wine, you can also make it with whiskey, which is how we’ve made it here.

If you would like to serve our recipe with wine, you may do so.

Simply substitute all or part of the apple juice with equal parts of the wine of your choice.

Ingredients for making homemade Glogg:

  • 1 L Apple Juice
  • 1.5 cup Highland Park Magnus Single Malt Whiskey
  • 4 tbsp Dark Brown Sugar
  • 3 Orange Wheels
  • 6 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 2 tbsp Golden Raisins
  • 2 tbsp Slivered Blanched Almonds
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Grated Ginger
  • 2 tbsp Cloves
  • 2 tbsp Star Anise
  • 2 tbsp Allspice
  • 2 tbsp Black Peppercorns

Ingredients for the Glogg’s Fruit Mix Recipe:

  • 3 oz Highland Park Magnus Single Malt Whiskey
  • 2 tbsp Slivered Blanched Almonds
  • 2 tbsp Golden Raisins

How to make Viking Glogg

Pre-Step: You can make the fruit mix before you make the glogg as you want to give the raisins and nuts a bit of time to soak up the whiskey.

Simply measure the ingredients, put them in a small bowl, and let them soak for a bit.

Bring all Glogg ingredients – except the whiskey- to a low boil for 15 minutes to bring out the flavor of the spices.

Strain.

Add the whiskey after the temperature has cooled below 172 degrees Fahrenheit.

Alcohol evaporates at 172 degrees, so if you want it boozy, you want to do this step.

If you’re just using the whiskey for flavor, it’s okay to let it warm up with the rest of the ingredients.

Serve with a scoop of Glogg Fruit Mix.

Note: You can make the Glogg and Fruit Mix ahead of time.

Store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

The Glogg can be reheated before serving.

Just remember to keep it below 172 degrees if you want it boozy.

You can use a candy or other cooking thermometer to check the temperature.

You will want to strain it again when you serve it.

Can I make non-alcoholic Glogg?

Sure!

When you mix the drink, simply omit the whiskey from the recipe.

You can omit the fruit mix if you’d like if you don’t want to soak the fruit and nuts in the whiskey.

Or just soak the raisins in the glogg.
